College Prep Conversation

Every student is different and each college conversation is tailored to meet their individual needs. The process is confusing and it changes constantly. Our goal is to prepare your student for what lies ahead, challenge your student to reach their potential in high school and outline the opportunities that are available in preparation for college.

High school
transcript review/
course selection

High school counselors are stretched thin and are no longer able to spend quality time with students in planning their academic future. While the recommended ratio of students to counselors is 225:1, the national average is 442:1.  We will assist with reviewing your student’s course selection and high school transcripts to help maximize their academic potential in preparation for college.

Extra-curricular activities and
summer programs

Activities help to build self-confidence, life skills and a sense of community and it’s critical your student pursues activities they are passionate about outside of the classroom. We will aid your student in identifying activities that will accentuate their talents, help them to grow as an individual and enhance their college application.

Scholarship opportunities

There are a number of opportunities from National Merit for PSAT scores, institutional scholarships, scholarships for class rank and outside scholarships that help to offset the cost of college.  We will discuss the various opportunities available and provide guidance and resources on applying for funds.

There is so much to know about financial aid. We will review state, federal and college aid available.  We will also explain the different acronyms used in the process such as FAFSA, CSS, COE, EFC, NPC, etc., to provide a better understanding of what is involved and assist in reducing the financial impact of tuition.

Test scores can impact admissions decisions and scholarship opportunities and determining which college-admissions test your student should take can be confusing.  We will cover the differences between the standardized tests, their costs and how preparing for the test can help your student display their strongest academic abilities.

Standardized

Deciding what to do after high school can be a massive undertaking.  There are a variety of factors to consider and numerous options available that your student may not be aware of.  We will work with your student to help identify and explore interests that best align with their skills, talents and personality traits and use that information to identify majors and careers to explore.

Career interest assessment

The entire process of college planning can feel overwhelming and frustrating. Add in homework, extra-curricular activities and family obligations and it feels as though there isn’t enough time to get everything done.  We will work with your student to break large tasks into smaller pieces while teaching your student time management skills that will allow them to stay organized and meet the various deadlines throughout the college application process.

Goal setting

Resumes are a way to highlight important achievements and extracurricular activities and are typically used for letters of recommendation, interviews and supplemental applications. Most students have access to a template resume, but still fail to keep track of their accomplishments.  By the time they start completing college applications, they are unable to recall the information, which just increases the stress for the family. We will work with your student early on to keep their resume updated in preparation for the college application process.

Resume development

Determining what is important with choosing a college can be confusing, overwhelming and exhausting. Approximately 33% of students don’t get it right and will transfer to another college after their first year. This can result in credits not transferring, staying in college longer and increasing the overall cost of college. We want to avoid that for your student. With Corsava Cloud©, we get to the heart of what is most important to your student as we begin with developing their college list.

Important factors for attending college

We spend time with your student because we want to find a college where they will be happy and successful, recognizing that cost is a factor as well.  We take all of the information we learn and create a college list specific to your student. We provide a detailed report of target, likely and reach colleges along with a write up of each college, resources for financial aid, scholarships, academic programs and courses to explore to help simplify the review of each college.

College list development

Touring a college campus can help your student get a better feel of the campus and if they think they will fit in.  It also provides your student the opportunity to speak with other students about the college, meet with a professor, or even sit in on a class to help answer the question of “Why do I want to attend this school?” We will discuss the types of college visits, the best time to visit a college, how to connect with college representatives to show interest and provide your student with a checklist to keep track of their visit and rate each college.

Colleges often require an essay as part of the college process to learn more about your student beyond the application. It is important that your student take advantage and use this as their “opportunity to shine.”   With our one-on-one essay assistance and brainstorming sessions and resources, we will help your student find their authentic voice and get to the heart of their story so their essay stands out.

The process can be quite daunting especially when there are multiple applications to complete with varying deadlines. Then there is the decision as to whether to apply Early Decision, Early Action or Regular Decision. We will strategize and discuss a plan to prepare for completing applications and outline deadlines to stay on track.  We are also available to provide assistance in analyzing aid packages when selecting which college to attend.
